Drying tips for Water damaged iPhones and iPads 9 years ago

Water / Liquid damaged iPhones and iPads are the second commonly occurring problems faced by any smartphone users, after the “screen damage” - issue.

The water damaged cases are those in which water has seeped / penetrated inside the internal parts of the Apple device, e.g. dropping in drinks, pools, tanks, wet mud, etc. Usually all types of liquid damaged or spoiled issues of iPhones can be repaired or resolved at home by the user only if he quickly starts his iPhone or iPads device rescue operation: -)

Here, we will discuss the simple steps to save the awesome device – iPhone and iPad – from doom. • Firstly, take out the device out of the water as quickly as possible. If the device is still in On mode, then, turn it off. But if the device has turned off automatically, just remove the SIM card and battery (by using a proper tool kit). Whatever the mode (Flight mode, sleep mode) may be on your device while dropping in liquid, please don’t try to turn it on. • Wipe off water from all parts, components and corners of the device with a soft good quality tissue paper or cotton cloth. Shake the device to take the water out of it. • Assemble the iPhone or iPad completely and keep the damp device in a box filled with raw-uncooked rice (completely covered) or many dry silica gel pouches. Both materials have the property to absorb the moisture from the water damaged device. Use of Silica gel pouch is a much better option than dried rice as they are not much messy. • Do not disturb the device for next 48-72 hours. Also, do not try to turn on the device to check – Is it working or not? This is done to avoid any type of short circuiting of internal components. • After 72 hours of drying and waiting, try to switch it on the device. If it is turned on, firstly back-up all your important files stored in the device. This is recommended as water / liquid damage may cause some malfunctions or faults in the future. The battery life is also affected to some extent. • If your device is still not turning on then it is recommended to take your device to your trusted iPhone repair shop or Apple Store.

The above mentioned steps can also be applied to other iOS devices which are facing similar water / Liquid - damaged problems.

The above stated tips are to be followed only if you take up the responsibility of all iPhone repair / fixing procedures you are undertaking. You can also follow this DIY guide, if you are out of the Apple warranty period.
